MAJOR PROJECT UPDATES

2008 Asphalt Concrete Overlay Project

The project will include a 1.5” thick Rubberized Asphalt Concrete overlay on Nut Tree Parkway (from Allison Drive to Helen Power Drive), Harbison Drive (from Ulatis Drive to Nut Tree Parkway), Ulatis Drive (from Allison Drive to Nut Tree Road), and Peabody Road (from California Drive to the southern city limits).  Additional work will include replacement of existing curb ramps with new ramps that meet the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, striping, new traffic loop detectors, and adjustment of existing facilities.

The contractor continues replacing curb ramps and lowering valve boxes and manholes in the areas to receive rubberized hot mix asphalt overlay.

Dobbins Street/East Monte Vista Avenue Intersection Improvements & Bridge Widening

The contractor continued installing forms for the concrete bents, welding steel beams for the bridge falsework, and placing foundations for the new traffic signals.

Traffic Engineering staff has reviewed and commented on phase II plans for the Dobbins/Monte Vista Intersection Improvements Project.  The second phase will deal with the reconstruction of the interior lanes of the east leg of Monte Vista Avenue and the associated impacts of those closed lanes.

Construction is planned to be complete by December 2008.

Detention Basin Projects

Vacaville is diligently pursuing a series of detention basins to reduce the potential of flood damages within the City.

Construction of the Pleasants Valley Detention Basins begins Summer 2008.  The contractor mobilized to the project site last week, and began removing fencing. Debris removal is scheduled to commence this week.

The City completed the land acquisition for the planned Alamo Creek and Ulatis Creek Detention Basins.  As of July 2008, Vacaville secured $3 million dollars from FEMA under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) and $3 million dollars under California’s Department of Water Resources Proposition 84.  Both awards are for the Alamo Creek Detention Basin.  In order to receive the funds, the project must pass the HMGP National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance project and Proposition 84 hearing processes.  Both items are currently underway.

Padan School Extension/ VUSD Meeting

Traffic Engineering is working with Vacaville Unified School District and the Police Department regarding the Padan School Road Extension.  The project will incorporate a traffic circle for school bus turnarounds to relieve Marshall Road traffic from Will C. Wood High School and the new Vacaville Christian High School.
