Old Town Hall
The town hall was constructed in 1907 as a joint venture by the Town of Vacaville and Solano County. At the time, the building was recognized as only the second structure in California to be built of reinforced concrete. The facility eventually housed all the city offices as well as the marshal, sheriff, and the justice court. If you were unfortunate enough to be arrested at the time, you would have been placed in a jail cell on the main floor before being escorted by officers of the law to the Justice of the Peace located on the second floor. The local Volunteer Fire Department was also able to find space in the new "Old Town Hall." It stored two horse carts, which were actually pulled by hand to nearby fires, in the center of the main floor.
The "Old Town Hall" today serves as your one-stop link to local history. Held within its historic walls are the libraries and archives of the Vacaville Heritage Council and the Solano County Genealogical Society, the business office of the Peņa Adobe Historical Society and the Solano County Historical Society.
