CITY DEPARTMENTS
The City Manager and the City Attorney are appointed by the City Council. The City Manager's Office is responsible for the overall administration of the City organization, support to the City Council, management of intergovernmental relations, economic development, public information, and special projects. The City Clerk function is also located in the City Manager's Office.
The City Attorney's Office reviews matters coming before the City Council for legal sufficiency; advises City staff and the City Council on legal issues faced by the organization; prepare or reviews ordinances, resolutions, and contracts; and defends and prosecutes all legal actions and processes in which the City is involved.
General City Administration is provided by several departments including finance, human resources, information technology, and risk managment.
The Department of Housing and Redevelopment is responsible for implementing housing, community revitalization, social service, and code compliance programs. This department also serves as the staff for the Vacaville Redevelopment Agency.
The Community Development Department coordinates all long-range planning and private development in the city. It provides planning services, building permit and inspection services, and development engineering.
The Vacaville Police Department is committed to providing outstanding public safety services that have contributed to Vacaville being one of the safest cities of its size in California.
The Vacaville Fire Department provides fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials, and non-fire emergency response services for the City, as well as emergency medical services for both the City and the surrounding rural area.
The Community Services Department offers a wide range of recreational programs and special events for residents of all ages, and operates the City's community centers, performing arts theater, senior center, aquatics center, and other community facilities.
The Public Works Department is the City's largest and most diverse department, providing traffic engineering, capital improvement project engineering, transit services, solid waste programs, fleet management, and ADA Title II compliance programs. The department maintains the City's public infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, traffic signs and signals, parks, medians, and the storm drainage system. Public Works also operates the Utilities Division, which provides water and wastewater services to the City.
